Project Description

This is only the second building of its type in the United Kingdom, the other being at the Weald and Downland Museum.

At over 100 metres in length and with an area in excess of 2000m2 the structure represents the largest timber gridshell construction in the UK. This environmentally friendly building includes a grass roof over an underground structure and grey water technology.

The project further comprises rainwater recycling from the gridshell roofing together with natural ventilation and localised comfort cooling.

The specialist roof comprises a four layer, multi curved, interlocking lath timber gridshell construction with three poles, all formed using home grown timber from the Crown Estate.
