Project Description

This project was the formation of a brand new special school which houses the merger of 2 existing special schools. The building consists of a two-storey teaching and admin block, with a metal seamed roof with high level vitral glazing smoked panels in the ceiling. Internally, the rooms have high ceilings, with exposed glulam beams used as rafter/trusses.

The interior is light and airy and gives a feeling of space to the users. There is a great deal of specialised equipment within the building to cater to the building’s users. The kitchens are of a specialist design, with adjustable work tops, and the building also uses a wisper hoist system to enable the manoeuvre of disabled users for therapies and hydrotheraphy pool.

The building houses a hydrotherapy pool. Externally, there are sports pitches, a specialist timber play area on coloured tarmac, a “Leavers Roof Terrace” where ex-pupils of the school can meet up, as well as Car-parking facilities. The school will teach key stage 2 – key stage 4.
